Course Offerings & Progressive Curriculum

Classes generally meet once a week and run continually throughout the academic year organized by terms running approximately 10-12 weeks in length. Our curriculum and projects are designed to present a progressing level of skill and challenge so that students can gain the most out of our program. Our small class size and individualized instruction allows you to join at any time.

Getting Ready I

4 - 6 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 4 and 5 year old. Students work on their ability to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing the creatures from nature and objects from their world.

Getting Ready II

4 - 6 Years Old
A class for 4-6 year olds who have mastered the ability to recognize the elements of shape and have achieved a skill level that allows them to make independent choices in composition and background ideas. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class, without an undue need for individual attention.

Basic Drawing I

6 - 8 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 6 and 7 year old. Students quickly learn to recognize the elements of shape and are introduced to various choices of how to interpret the lesson, their own creative rendering of the subject and background.

Basic Drawing II

6 - 8 Years Old
A class for 6-8 year olds who have mastered the ability to make independent choices in the interpretation of the lesson, show a confidence in their drawing skills, and can color in with control. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class and shows the ability to put effort into their work.

Homeschool - Basic Drawing

6 - 8 Years Old
Introduction to drawing skills for 6-8 year olds. This class will highlight beginning perspective and figure drawing as well as numerous animal projects. Watercolor, pastel, graphite, colored pencils and markers. The curriculum for this class encompasses over 2 years of different lessons.

Drawing Fundamentals

8 - 12 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of an 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape and how to use them in creating drawings from a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. Lessons will introduce them to inspirations from 2Dimensional graphic materials, 3Dimensional objects, the human form, perspective, and proportion.

Intermediate Drawing

8 - 12 Years Old
A class for 8-12 year olds who have achieved the skill level of working independently on projects, rarely needing a step by step demonstration by the teacher. Geared for the student who has mastered the basic skills in line, shape, proportion, perspective, and the ability to create volume through light logic, using 3 dimensional objects. Can stay focused and concentrated for a 2 hour class and is confident enough to explore various subject matter and live models with comfort.

Photoshop - computers

8 - 12 Years Old
Have you ever wondered how Photoshop works? Well, this weekly hourly class will give you the skill set needed to manipulate images on your Mac or PC. An additional lab fee will be required per student.

Cartooning

8 - 12 Years Old
Want to make your own cartoon characters or learn to illustrate cartooning? This weekly hour and a half class will explore the loose characters of the cartooning relm as well as help you illustrate your own comic book.

Open Workshop

8 - 12 Years Old
Open studio hours for students who are interested in working on portfolio pieces, some instruction given. Basic studio supplies available. Students must bring their own canvases and acrylics/oils/and brushes. Students sign up for the semester for one hour of instruction and one hour of studio time each week. Some guest artists will visit and teach during these sessions.

Flash for computers

8 - 12 Years Old
Flash is a modifying and animating tool used by MAC and PC users. If you'd like to learn how to make images dance across your computer screen, this weekly hour and a half class will give you the tools needed to become proficient in Flash. You are required to bring your own laptop computer to class and an additional lab fee may be required.

Writing and Illustrating

8 - 12 Years Old
Learn to write and illustrate your own compositions. This is for all students ages 10 and above including adults. Students will learn about story structure, character development and plot lines. Students will be encouraged to bring their imaginations to life! For beginners and intermediate writing students.

Architectural Rendering

8 - Adult
Architectural Rendering in Pencil/Pen. Students will learn about some of the great masters in Architecture and do 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional drawings. Some off site classes will be done as we sketch some of the landmarks of Keller. Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehry, IM Pei and Gaudi are some of the masters we will learn about. This is an hour and a half weekly class.

Advanced Computing

8 - Adult
Advanced flash animation instruction for students who have already taken Flash. Detailed instruction on interactive animation, more sound bites and interactivity. Small class size with lots of individualized attention. Billy Mabrey is the instructor. Great Life skill to have for students interested in digital arts.

Fashion Illustration

8 - 12 Years Old
Fashion Illustration and Design -- If you've got a budding fashion designer in your home this is the class for them. This new illustration class will cover history of fashion, discuss different designers, how to make a fashion board, learn body shapes and what flatters each shape, discuss patterns and fabrics and how to deconstruct a t-shirt and make their own design. We'll finish the class with a Fashion Show. For students 8+ Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15th-Nov. 3 One hour weekly class - $160.00

Photoshop - short term

8 - Adult
Photoshop -- Learn to manipulate your own photo\'s in our computer Photoshop class. Change the background, sharpen images, add images, insert images -- the program is incredible but it takes practice to learn some of the short cuts in Photoshop. Never take a bad picture again! Laptop is suggested, but you don\'t have to have one. This special 9 week class is $250.00. For students age 8 and older.

An Independent Study class for Teens and Adults, that ranges from students with no experience to ones who have fairly good basic drawing skills. Will introduce the student to all subjects, media, and styles of drawing and painting.

Needlepoint and Design

I\'ve had so many comments on my needlework designs here at the studio that I\'ve decided to teach a class on basic needlework and how to paint your own needlepoint canvas. Basic canvas, needles and some yarn will be supplied, but additional specialized yarns may be required depending on the designs that you do. For adults and teens - 13 and older.

Acrylic/Watercolor Workshop

Adult
Our 2-hour open workshop allows you time to complete a few masterpieces. Instruction given in watercolors and acrylics. Supplies included. Use this time to create and develop your own personal style. Some guided lessons given. For beginners and advanced artists. For students 13 and older - adult.
